Adventurous After School Activities
Keeping children entertained after school is often a challenge for teachers and parents alike. 2015 saw the launch of our after school ‘Groms’ clubs, the Ultimate Adventure Centre’s solution to enrich the extra-curriculum offerings of your school. The Groms out of school activities have been tailored to inspire the confidence of the children to aid their enthusiasm in school.
We have designed two programs suitable for Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils from the ages of 8 and above. These programs have been created to give young people access to our most popular activities with a price that is affordable for as many as possible.
We’ve tried to keep the way that ‘Groms Learn to Surf’ and ‘Adventure Groms’ work as simple as possible. Each is a six week program, with sessions from £10 each, all sessions last for approximately 2 hrs. We can arrange the transport from the school or college at a small additional charge or you can provide it, the parents then pick up the children directly from the beach at Westward Ho! or from our centre.
Groms Learn to Surf
Our Learn to Surf sessions are suitable for all children from ages 8 and above. Whether the children are complete novices or have some surfing experience we will help them improve their Surfing technique. Westward Ho! is a great place to learn to surf, allowing us to teach the children on waves that are ideal for them. We start with the basic surfing skills and aim for progression throughout the six week program to get everybody standing and catching waves.
We have many schools coming back for more than one session throughout the school year, this allows us to further develop their skills to get them riding waves with more confidence. All equipment is provided including Surf Boards, Wetsuits and Boots, please make sure they bring their own towels! All of our Surf coaches are fully approved and RNLI Beach Lifeguard qualified to ensure your students are in safe hands.
The Adventure Groms sessions take advantage of the wide variety of activities that the Ultimate Adventure Centre has to offer. Over the 6 week period the children will get to experience the Ultimate Assault, Awesome 4 Some (High Ropes), Laser Tag, Climbing Wall and Zip Wire and a taster Surf Lesson. The young people will get to try the Ultimate Assault on the first and last weeks of the program, to allow them to try and improve on their fastest lap time.
Such a wide variety activities provides many different types of experience for the children. There’s no denying that each of the activities provide a different element of challenge and fun. They also can help to develop teamwork, communication and personal achievement, further enhancing the developmental aims of the school or college. One of the first schools to take advantage of the Groms program was Kingsley School Bideford, who have provided excellent feedback;
The Junior School Surf Club has been fantastic! The instructors are really approachable, make the effort to get to know each individual child, and certainly know their stuff. All the children have progressed quickly and have had so much fun, thanks to the expert tuition, organisation and friendliness of the instructors. Nothing has been too much trouble and the Surf School has been really good at adapting to any last minute changes, or unworkable tides, by providing alternative sessions at the Adventure Centre. All this has been delivered at a reasonable price point too.
We cannot recommend you highly enough – thank you! – Jennie Cousins, Kingsley School, Bideford
